V/R: One dead, two injured as grader knocks down pedestrians at Dzodze 

One person has died while two others sustained injuries after an XCMG grader knocked them down at Dzodze, in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.

The Police said the incident occurred at about 0730 hours on Wednesday, when the grader, with registration number GR 215, was moving from Penyi towards Dzodze.

The grader owned by Nagfairmount Company Limited, a contractor working on the Dzodze-Denu Big Push project, was then being operated by Mr Taminu Habib.

The three victims, identified as employees of Potent Engineering Company Limited, Penyi, were reportedly walking along the shoulder of the road in the same direction as the grader, when they were knocked down.

One of the victims, Madam Mariama Gbemu, 31, died at the scene and was pronounced dead by the Dzodze District Police Accident Squad.

The two injured persons, Madam Augustina Azigi, and Mr George Gadegbeku, both 31 years old, were subsequently conveyed to the St. Anthony Hospital at Dzodze, where they were admitted for medical attention.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the mortuary of St. Anthony Hospital pending autopsy.

The grader has been impounded at the Dzodze Police Station for inspection by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

Mr Habib, the grader operator, is also in police custody assisting with investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident while the police continued to investigate the cause of the accident.
