MTN Ghana has unveiled the 2026 Suncity Festival in Sunyani, using the occasion to celebrate three decades of operations while renewing its pledge to provide quality services and strengthen its bond with customers and communities.

The festival was officially launched in Sunyani with a colourful ceremony attended by representatives of MTN Ghana, the National Sports Authority, the Suncity Group of Companies and other stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Obed Adu Amankwaa, Bono Regional Sales Manager of MTN Ghana, said the company’s 30-year journey had been shaped by innovation, resilience and the continued loyalty of its customers.

He said MTN Ghana, which began its operations in the country as Spacefon, had evolved significantly over the years, introducing services that have transformed communication and financial transactions.

Among these, he mentioned GSM, Mobile Money and various digital and enterprise solutions, which have contributed to expanding access to telecommunications and digital services.

Mr. Amankwaa also underscored MTN Ghana’s investment in network infrastructure, saying the company continued to work towards providing reliable connectivity to its growing customer base.

He further pointed to MTN’s social interventions across the country, including support for essential services during the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly 200 social impact projects implemented in health, education and economic empowerment.

Festival brings communities together
The Suncity Festival has over the years provided MTN Ghana with a platform to engage directly with communities while celebrating local culture, sports and entertainment.

This year’s festival comes with a number of activities, including a walkathon, free health screening, music concert and inter-community football gala.

The football competition will run from September 26 to October 11, 2026, at the Twene Amanfo SHS Park, with teams from different communities expected to battle for honours.

Beyond the competition itself, the football gala is expected to promote community interaction, youth participation and the discovery of sporting talents.

The Bono Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Kwame Baa Mensa, applauded MTN Ghana for supporting sports development, stressing the role of sports in providing young people with opportunities to showcase their talents and pursue careers.

Suncity Group commends MTN
Also speaking at the event, Ransford Antwi, CEO of Suncity Group of Companies and local organiser of the festival, expressed appreciation to MTN Ghana for sustaining its partnership with the Suncity Festival for about a decade.

He urged residents, customers and stakeholders to turn out in their numbers to participate in the activities lined up for the 2026 edition.

The festival is expected to provide MTN Ghana with another opportunity to reward customer loyalty, engage communities and celebrate its 30-year presence in Ghana, while reinforcing its commitment to service delivery and social impact.
