Claim I have ignored EOCO's invitation is false – Manhyia South MP

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has denied claims by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) that he ignored invitations to assist with an ongoing investigation.

This follows an attempted arrest of the lawmaker at the premises of the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23.

EOCO subsequently said it had invited the MP on two occasions in February 2026 but that the invitations were not honoured, leading to the steps taken to secure his attendance.

However, speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme on the same day, Baffour Awuah described EOCO’s claim as false and explained his understanding of the February invitation.

He explained that the February invitation was initially directed to the Senior Partner of Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah & Partners, a position he said he no longer held after becoming a Member of Parliament.

According to him, he initially understood the invitation to be directed at him personally and therefore wrote to EOCO to follow what he described as the appropriate procedure by writing to the Speaker of Parliament.

He said EOCO subsequently clarified that it was seeking the office holder of the law firm rather than him in his capacity as an MP.

“I ceased to be the Senior Partner after becoming a Member of Parliament. So I made my partner, who is the Managing Partner of the firm, honour the invitation. Upon arriving there, it was revealed that we were being invited over a case we were handling as lawyers for SIC Savings and Loans against Equity Savings and Loans,” he said.

Baffour Awuah said his partner provided EOCO with the information required in connection with the investigation and also submitted a statement.

He added that EOCO had not engaged him personally since that interaction, contrary to the agency’s assertion that he had failed to honour invitations extended to him.
