Tricycle operators announce 8% increase in fares following GPRTU announcement

The National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana (NUTOG) has announced an upward adjustment in passenger fares for tricycle operators across the country.

The announcement was contained in a press release issued by the National Executive Council (NEC) at the Head Office in Accra on September 22, 2026. The release was addressed to all Regional, Metropolitan, Municipal, District and Zonal Executive Heads, all Regional Secretariat Offices and the general public.

According to the Union, the decision follows intense calls by its leadership for an increment in fares on the basis of persistent increases in the cost of tricycle transport operations.

The release stated that following close consultation with the Ministry of Transport and various stakeholders, NUTOG has arrived at a decision to adjust passenger fare payments by 8 percent.

The leadership however maintained that all charges below GH¢5 should be adjusted by GH¢1 and GH¢1.50 for charges between GH¢5 and GH¢10, while the 8 percent increment is maintained on all charges above GH¢10.

However, the National Leadership of NUTOG wishes to inform its membership and the general public to bear with its operators, as there has been an upward adjustment in passenger fares going forward.

The Union further expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders and the general public.
