EPCG honours Togbe Adza Nye IV for support towards church development

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has honoured Togbe Adza Nye IV, Dutorfia of Ziavi, for his outstanding dedication and continuous support for the development of the Church.

The honour was conferred by the Standing Committee of the General Assembly, led by the Moderator, Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. Bliss Divine Agbeko (Rtd), at a brief ceremony held at the chief's residence at Ziavi Dzogbe on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

A citation was presented to Togbe Adza Nye IV in recognition of his immense contributions to the growth of the E.P. Church, education and community development in Ziavi.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Moderator said the Church deemed it necessary to recognise individuals whose selfless contributions have positively impacted the Church and society.

“This recognition is to acknowledge people whose contributions have made a positive impact and to encourage others to also support the development of their communities,” Rt. Rev. Dr. Agbeko stated.

He noted that Togbe Adza Nye IV has over the years, supported the EP Church at Ziavi, particularly in its quest to provide a befitting and permanent place of worship for the congregation.

According to him, the church building had suffered repeated setbacks, including its roof being ripped off by strong winds on several occasions, but the chief remained resolute in his support until it was re-roofed for the third time.

“The church building experienced difficulties with its roofing on several occasions, including damage caused by strong winds. Despite the setbacks, Togbe continued to support the church until the building was roofed again on three different occasions,” the Moderator said.

He added that the chief’s benevolence extends beyond the EP Church to other denominations, including the Methodist Church at Ziavi Dzogbe, as well as to schools and other development initiatives.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Agbeko further disclosed that Togbe has supported teaching and learning in schools within the area through the provision of whiteboards and desks, and commended his inclusive leadership.

“He doesn't leave anybody behind. He takes everybody and embraces everybody,” the Moderator said, describing the chief’s attitude as worthy of emulation.

In his response, Togbe Adza Nye IV expressed gratitude to the Moderator and the Standing Committee of the EPCG for the honour done him.

He attributed his support for various denominations to his personal background, noting that although he is affiliated to the EP Church at Adenta, he attended Methodist educational institutions.

Recounting his involvement, the chief said the EP Church building at Ziavi had its roof blown off twice by rainstorms, and in 2024, following another heavy windstorm, he responded to an appeal and assisted with the re-roofing.

Togbe Adza Nye IV also mentioned that he has contributed five whiteboards and desks to schools in Ziavi and donated 500 bags of cement and other roofing materials towards development projects in the community, stressing that his support is driven by his commitment to the development and welfare of his people.
