A tragic accident at the Brewery Traffic Light in Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region has claimed the life of a roadside trader identified as Janet.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, after a forklift reportedly failed its brakes and veered towards traders at the traffic light.
According to an eyewitness, Ama Sefa, who spoke to this portal, said she and Janet, who sells pawpaw at the traffic light, were selling along the main road while the traffic light was red.
She said when the light turned green, they moved away from the road and waited for the traffic to stop again.
It was at that point, she said, that the forklift reportedly failed its brakes and moved in their direction.
Ama Sefa said she managed to escape, but Janet was hit, trapped, and dragged by the forklift. She died on the spot.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses at the scene have called on authorities to regulate the activities of traders and heavy-duty vehicles around the traffic light to prevent such occurrences in the future.
