Nana B demands dismissal of officials over Ghana’s recent drug trafficking cases

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has called for the dismissal of officials responsible for preventing narcotics trafficking, accusing the government of failing to take decisive action following a series of recent drug-related incidents.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, described the recent drug seizures linked to Ghana as an “international embarrassment” and questioned the government’s response to the developments.

His comments follow a meeting President John Dramani Mahama held on September 17 with security and port-sector agencies to review recent drug trafficking cases.

At the meeting, the President was informed that 10 people, including four Customs Division officers, had been detained while investigations continued. He subsequently directed an inter-agency task force to develop measures to strengthen controls against narcotics trafficking.

Nana Boakye, however, said convening the meeting was not enough and argued that officials whose responsibilities included preventing the trafficking of narcotics should face consequences.

“God, this is a huge international embarrassment. You have, in just four days, close to about five illicit drug-related matters,” Nana Boakye said.

He questioned why the government had not taken immediate action against officials he believed had failed to perform their duties.

“And all the President can do is to call for a team meeting at the Jubilee House and then just instruct people to make sure that you tighten the work you are doing,” he said.

“They must be sacked. They have relaxed on their duties. They must be sacked.”

Nana Boakye further criticised President Mahama over what he described as a failure to follow through on his earlier promise to take firm action against officials found responsible for the situation.

“His Excellency the President spoke tough. He was going to crack the whip today. He cannot crack the whip. He is rather pampering the activities of illicit drugs,” Nana Boakye said.

According to him, several officials should already have been removed from office over the recent incidents.

“Close to about nine officials should have been sacked by now. Yet the President is pampering them,” he said.
