Ghana jollof saga: High Court to hear Salomey Baffoe’s bail application on September 23

Lawyer for senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah, says he is optimistic that the High Court will grant his client bail when her application is heard on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The application, filed on Friday, is scheduled to be heard at 9:00 a.m. at the High Court Complex.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Monday, September 21, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah said the legal team was hopeful that Baffoe would be released from custody to return home and care for her children.

“It was filed on Friday, and the date for hearing is Wednesday at 9 o’clock at the High Court Complex. We are very confident that she’ll be released to go and enjoy life and take care of her children, who have not had their mother for the last 10 days,” he said.

The lawyer argued that there was no justification for Baffoe to remain in custody, maintaining that the investigation involving her had effectively been completed.

“Demonstrably from the government's own statement, there's no outstanding investigation to be conducted. So why is she being held?” he added.

Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime, to wit, publication of false news, in connection with an ongoing police investigation.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge after the Adentan Circuit Court remanded her for two weeks on Friday, September 18.

The police allege that Baffoe assisted Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, whom they identify as the operator of the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account and who is believed to be in the United Kingdom, to disseminate videos and recruit others to redistribute the content.

According to the police, a forensic examination of Baffoe’s phone, including audio and video files, as well as mobile money records, uncovered alleged financial links between her and Kodua.

Baffoe is scheduled to return to the Adentan Circuit Court on September 28, 2026, as the case continues.

The High Court’s ruling on the bail application will determine whether Baffoe remains in custody pending further proceedings or is released on bail.
