The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven persons in connection with a suspected armed robbery network operating across Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the newly formed Black Cobra Unit and the Zebilla Neighbourhood Watch Committee, according to a report by Media Without Borders.
The suspects have been identified as Issaka Iddrisu, 20, Ali Tamimu, 21, Akugre Amobila, 26, Banabas Apiiga, 41, Abdul Rashid Adamu, 38, Apiiga Alebena, 21, and Bilal Adabodee, 31.
Police said the suspects allegedly confessed to being part of a wider gang that supplies weapons for robbery operations in the three districts.
The arrests reportedly followed complaints from two victims who identified two of the suspects as members of a group of three armed men who allegedly attacked them at gunpoint and robbed them of two Yamaha scooters.
According to the police account cited by Media Without Borders, the stolen scooters were valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively. The victims were allegedly threatened with death if they reported the incident to the police.
Investigators reportedly learned from the suspects that the weapons used in the alleged operations were supplied by another suspect based in Bawku, whose identity has not been disclosed.
A subsequent search of the homes of Abdul Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena and Bilal Adabodee reportedly led to the retrieval of two unregistered motorbikes, quantities of suspected hard drugs and GH¢29,550 in cash.
The police suspect the cash may be proceeds from the alleged robbery activities.
All seven suspects have since been remanded into police custody by the Circuit Court in Bolgatanga.
They are expected to reappear before the court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The arrests come amid continued efforts by security agencies and community-based security groups to tackle violent crime and improve security in communities across the Upper East Region.
The suspects remain accused persons, and the allegations against them are yet to be tested before the court.
