Agortime Paramount Chief urges renewed focus on education in Agortime, commends MP donations SHS freshers

The Paramount Chief of the Agortime Traditional Area and the President of the Agortime Traditional Council Nene Nuer Keteku IV, has called on stakeholders to pay greater attention to the education of children in Agortime Ziope to help improve academic performance and secure their future prospects.

He made the call during a ceremony to present mattresses and chop boxes to students from the area who are preparing to enter Senior High School (SHS).

Nene Nuer Keteku commended the Member of Parliament and other stakeholders for supporting the students with essential items for their education.

He said the gesture would encourage both parents and students to appreciate the importance of education.

He noted that the donation was timely because many parents struggle to provide all the items required before their wards leave for SHS, adding that the support should motivate students to take their studies seriously.

Expressing concern about academic performance in the area, the Paramount Chief said, "The results of our students should be a concern to parents, chiefs and other stakeholders because education plays a critical role in the future of every community and the nation as a whole."

He therefore urged parents to take a greater interest in their children's education and encouraged students who did not perform well to return to school and work harder to improve their results.

He also called for appropriate measures to address challenges affecting learning, saying, "Students should not simply be punished when they misbehave, but appropriate measures should be taken in schools to help guide and train them for the future."

Nene Nuer Keteku further advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the items, stressing that, "Your success in education can enable you to contribute positively to your communities and help raise the name of Agortime Ziope."

The Paramount Chief of the Agotime Traditional Area, Nene Nuer Keteku IV, who was also present, commended the initiative and acknowledged the participation of heads of schools, education officials, chiefs, parents and other stakeholders.

Nene Keteku noted that providing mattresses and chop boxes would help reduce the financial burden on parents who often face difficulties preparing their children for SHS.

He also highlighted the involvement of local carpenters in producing the chop boxes, saying the move would keep resources within the constituency and support local businesses.

In his address, the Member of Parliament for Agortime Ziope, Hon. Charles Akwasi Agbeve, said he was motivated to make the donation because of the financial challenges parents face when their children gain admission to SHS.

Hon. Agbeve, who donated 500 mattresses and chop boxes, stated that education remains crucial to individual and national development and that students need the necessary support to learn effectively.

He encouraged parents to continue supporting their children and urged the beneficiaries not to take the support for granted. "Work hard in school. Students who perform well will have better opportunities to continue their education and pursue their chosen careers," he advised, while appealing to teachers to continue giving their best and urging students who did not benefit from the package not to be discouraged but to return to school and strive for better results.
