New Juaben South Member of Parliament Michael Okyere Baafi has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of using propaganda in its handling of rising fuel prices, arguing that the party is now relying on explanations it previously rejected while in opposition.
Mr Okyere Baafi recalled that the NDC had challenged the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration’s explanation that the Russia-Ukraine war was contributing to increases in fuel prices in Ghana.
“When we said Russia and Ukraine were responsible for the adjustment of fuel prices, they asked us how a war happening far away could affect Ghana,” he recounted on AsaasePa FM.
He said the NDC government had now turned to international developments involving the United States, Israel and Iran to explain the current increases in fuel prices.
Mr Okyere Baafi further alleged that opposition figures were being prevented from openly criticising the government over the situation.
“Now that reality has caught up with them, they are also saying the US, Israel and Iran have burdened fuel prices in Ghana, but they are gagging opposition members from speaking up,” Baafi said.
The MP also questioned the government’s broader approach to managing the country, accusing the NDC administration of lacking good intentions towards Ghana.
“Their approach in running the country is to steal, kill and destroy,” he stated.
