'He collected GH¢82 million' — Angry Agbodza gives Top International Friday deadline to resume Enchi–Elubo road project

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has issued a final deadline to Top International Construction to appear before the Ministry with its full Board of Directors or risk losing its contract to construct the 71.25-kilometre Enchi–Elubo Road in the Western North Region.

The contractor has been given until Friday, September 18, to meet the Ministry, following concerns over the slow pace of work on the project, which has reportedly remained incomplete despite the contractor being on site for more than 10 years.

Mr. Agbodza announced the deadline during an inspection of the road project, where he expressed disappointment with the contractor’s performance and questioned its commitment to completing the road.

He said the Ministry had given the company several opportunities to improve its work, including warnings and summons to appear before officials, but meaningful progress had not been achieved.

The Minister indicated that government had reached the point where it must make a firm decision on whether the contractor should remain on the project.

The Enchi–Elubo Road is an important route linking communities in the Western North Region to Elubo and the country’s western corridor.

According to Mr. Agbodza, the September 18 meeting would provide Top International Construction with its final opportunity to account for its performance and demonstrate its willingness to return to site and complete the project.

“The owner of the company himself never turned up. He is always in Nigeria. He probably has better things to do than to come and do this work. He has taken our GH¢82 million. Indeed, we drove from Enchi, and you can see that the road is slightly better maintained than what it is.

“I am very disappointed in Top International Company. They did not take our instructions to come to the site and work seriously the way we thought they should. Top International basically doesn’t intend to do the work because they think they have our 82 million.

“Wherever the owner of the company and the directors are, Friday at 7 o’clock, or we terminate the job without any further discussion,” he mephasised.
