Police arrest two over 192 parcels of suspected cocaine in Wa

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested 2 persons and seized 192 compressed parcels of a substance suspected to be cocaine in connection with an alleged drug trafficking network.

The suspects have been identified as 26-year-old Abdulai Isaac, a driver’s mate, and Iddrisu Kamaldeen.

According to the Police, intelligence received indicated that suspected cocaine was being transported from Kumasi to Wa through the Bole enclave. Officers subsequently mounted surveillance along the route to track the movement of the consignment.

Abdulai Isaac was arrested at the ESP Bus Station in Wa on September 6, 2026. A search of his backpack led to the discovery of 192 compressed parcels of the suspected narcotic substance.

Further investigations resulted in the arrest of Iddrisu Kamaldeen, whom the Police described as one of the suspected customers. He allegedly admitted to purchasing the substance from Abdulai Isaac.

On September 14, the Police, in collaboration with officers from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Wa, conducted a field test on the seized substance.

The test, which was carried out in the presence of the 2 suspects, their relatives and Police officers, reportedly returned positive for cocaine.

The suspects have since been remanded in custody and are expected to appear before the court again on October 9, 2026.

The Police said investigations were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to be connected to the suspected trafficking network.

The Upper West Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks and preventing the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in the region.
