NDC will cover its failure with 'fake news' ahead of 2028 elections – Osahen Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has alerted the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prepare for what he describes as an aggressive misinformation and disinformation campaign ahead of the 2028 general elections.

He alleged that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) could use misinformation to divert public attention from what he described as the government’s failure to deliver on key national issues.

In a social media post on Tuesday, September 15, Osahen Afenyo-Markin urged NPP members, officers and communicators to remain vigilant, verify information and focus their messaging on issues affecting Ghanaians.

“Going into the 2028 elections, one strategy the NDC Government is likely to use aggressively, in its desperation to hold on to power, is misinformation and disinformation,” his post read in part.

The Minority Leader said NPP communicators should expect what he described as “fake news” and manufactured distractions aimed at shifting attention away from the government’s performance.

He argued that similar tactics were used by the ruling party while in opposition, claiming that some of the accusations and claims made at the time had subsequently been contradicted by facts or proven to be misleading.

The Minority Leader therefore urged Ghanaians to scrutinise information they receive and avoid being distracted from issues that directly affect their lives.

He said NPP members and communicators had a particular responsibility to verify claims, respond quickly to false information and remain disciplined in their communication.

“Check the facts, expose the lies quickly and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda,” he said.

He further called on party members to promote the vision of former Vice President and NPP 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the party works towards the 2028 elections.

“Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia’s vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028,” he added.
