The Russian Embassy in Ghana has rejected remarks by the European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, in which he described the Federation as an unreliable partner for Ghana.

The Embassy accused the EU representative of misrepresenting Russia’s relations with African countries and using what it described as “cheap propaganda” against Moscow.

In a statement shared via social media on Tuesday, September 15, it also disputed the EU’s criticisms of Russian projects in Africa, allegations concerning Ukrainian children and claims of illegal recruitment of Ghanaian citizens by Russia.

“The EU Ambassador took the liberty of describing Russia as ‘neither a credible nor reliable partner’ for Ghana. This assertion is not merely unfounded – it turns reality on its head,” the Embassy said in part of the statement.

The Embassy argued that Russia had remained a consistent partner to African countries for decades and said its relations with the continent are based on equality, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.

It further accused Western countries of deliberately creating obstacles to Russian investment projects in Africa through sanctions and restrictions on financing, logistics and payments.

According to the Embassy, Ghana and Russia are continuing discussions on cooperation in trade, investment, energy and technology.

It also claimed that trade between Russia and Ghana increased in the first half of 2026.

“Russia has been, is, and will remain a reliable, predictable and equal partner to Ghana. We do not lecture or dictate terms. We offer Ghana, first and foremost, additional opportunities,” the Embassy said.

The development comes amid competing efforts by Russia and Western countries to deepen diplomatic and economic engagement with African countries, including Ghana.
