The Director of Elections and IT of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi M. Gibrill, has alleged that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would have exploited the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project for illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration had a tendency to use well-intentioned initiatives to advance what he described as partisan interests.

Speaking on The Citizen Show with Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5FM, Mr. Gibrill said, “I believe that if the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project had been initiated under Nana Addo’s administration, there was a possibility that it could have been exploited for activities such as illegal mining.”

He further stated, “Our concern is that good national initiatives should be pursued in the broader interest of Ghanaians and not be diverted to serve partisan or narrow interests.”

Commenting on the performance of the Mahama administration, Mr. Gibrill said, “The initiatives being undertaken by the Mahama administration demonstrate a clear commitment to national development, and I believe Ghanaians are beginning to appreciate the direction of the government.”

He also called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider renaming the Accra-Kumasi Expressway the “Mahama Expressway,” in recognition of his contribution to the project.

This is simply the truth, but you will be attacked soon. I have never seen such an irresponsible leader in my life. He doesn't care about anything, not even reserving our forests. He would tell Ghanaians that "Sika Mpe Dede."
