Police arrest 49-year-old trader with 37 slabs of suspected narcotics at Ashaiman 'Ghetto'

The Ashaiman District Police have arrested a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, for allegedly possessing 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be indian hemp.

The arrest was made on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m. during a routine motorbike patrol by police officers and Community Police Assistants in the Ashaiman District.

According to the police situational report, the patrol team, led by General Corporal Bright Newell and General Corporal Serlorm Avorka, received intelligence that a young man was allegedly dealing in compressed dried plant materials suspected to be narcotics at a ‘ghetto’ near the New Tulaku Cow Market.

The team proceeded to an area behind the New Tulaku Cow Market, where they intercepted a sack allegedly containing the suspected narcotics.

Police said the sack was found in the possession of Issaka Mohammed, who was at the ‘ghetto’ at the time of the operation.

A search of the sack reportedly led to the discovery of 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be narcotics in one of its compartments.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for further investigation.

The exhibits were counted in the presence of the suspect and retained by the police for evidential purposes.

Police have also obtained an investigation caution statement from the suspect and filed it in the case docket.

The Ashaiman District Police say the suspect is expected to be arraigned before court soon.
