Tano South MCE distributes 1,500 fertilisers to farmers in municipality

The Municipal Chief Executive of Tano South Municipal, Hon. Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, has officially handed over a consignment of fertilisers to the Department of Food and Agriculture for distribution to farmers across the municipality.

The exercise is part of broader effort to increase initiative agricultural output, strengthen food security, and enhance the livelihoods of farmers.

The brief but significant ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmauel Kwame Frimpong, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Abdul Rahman Salam, Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Paul Addai, the Presiding Member of the Assembly Hon Isaac Kusi Amponsah, Heads of Departments, Extension Officers, and representatives of various farmer groups.

In his address, the MCE, Hon. Emmauel Kwame Frimpong, expressed deep appreciation to the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, for honouring their campaign promise to support Ghanaian farmers with free fertilizers and other essential inputs.

He disclosed that a total of 1,500 bags of fertiliser have been made available for the municipality, comprising 1,000 bags of NPK and 500 bags of Urea and Ammonia.

Hon. Frimpong also encouraged the youth to consider agriculture a viable and profitable enterprise, stressing that government is committed to making the sector attractive through free inputs, mechanization services, and other support systems aimed at ensure sustainable livelihoods.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Department, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Paul Addai, thanked the President and Agriculture Minister for their sustained commitment to food security and farmer welfare. He also commended the Municipal Chief Executive for his facilitation and logistical support.

Mr. Addai noted that the fertiliser distribution would significantly boost productivity in the coming season. He further revealed that a total of 750 farmers are expected to benefit from the initiative under the Feed Ghana Programme, with special focus on youth and women. He added that this would promote youth participation in agriculture, create employment, and enhance food security across the municipality.

He also highlighted other interventions under the Feed Ghana Programme in the area, including the distribution of 10,000 birds and the distribution of coconut seedlings to farmers. He stressed that the Programme has already proven beneficial to the municipality, with many farmers recording increased crop yields.

Touching on accountability, Mr. Addai explained that there would be extensive follow-up and monitoring of beneficiaries to ensure proper application of the fertilisers for maximum impact. He urged all beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs to improve their yields and overall livelihoods.
