Probe alleged military killing of lecturer in Bawku – Kusaug Youth demands

The Kusaug Youth Movement has condemned the alleged assault and killing of a lecturer of the Gbewaa College of Education in the Upper East Region.

Issaka Abdulai was allegedly beaten to death by military personnel operating in Bawku on Friday, September 11.

In a statement dated September 12, the group alleged that Mr Abdulai was unarmed when he was attacked by soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF) deployed to maintain peace in Bawku.

The movement said the incident occurred after the lecturer was returning home from work on his motorcycle shortly after the commencement of curfew hours.

It described the incident as unlawful and called on the government to urgently intervene and ensure an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Kusaug Youth Movement further alleged that the incident was not isolated, citing what it described as a broader pattern of alleged brutality against civilians in conflict-affected communities.

It referenced Garu, Bugri, Binduri, Bawku, Ashaiman and Wa, alleging that civilians in those areas had been subjected to excessive force by security personnel.

The movement is calling for an immediate and transparent investigation by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), working jointly with an independent panel of the Military High Command.
