Atta Akyea fights alleged 'wretched and vile propaganda'; says 'I cannot abandon or disown my client Adu-Boahene'

Lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea has hit back at reports circulating on social media that he has withdrawn from the defence of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

Describing the reports as false, the former Attorney General said there was no basis for claims that he had abandoned his client in the ongoing case.

“My attention has been drawn to some wretched and vile propaganda circulating on social media that I have abandoned my clients,” he said.

Mr Atta Akyea’s response follows a dispute between the prosecution and defence over the authenticity of a document being relied upon by the defence.

According to the lawyer, the document in question was admitted as evidence before Justice Francis Apangabuno Achibanga, who was sitting as an additional High Court judge, and was admitted without any objection.

He insisted that the development had not affected his commitment to the case, declaring: “I cannot abandon or disown my client.”

Mr Atta Akyea disclosed that his legal team was instead preparing what he described as a “very solid and credible submission of no case”.

He said the appropriate forum for resolving the dispute over the evidence was the court and not social media, where competing claims could not determine the merits of the case.

“Kwabena Adu-Boahene's case was launched on the platform of media trial, where lies sell. The court is the forum where evidence and law should settle vexed matters,” he said.

The lawyer maintained that the defence would continue to confront the prosecution’s case through the established judicial process.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Angela Adjei Boateng and Advantage Solutions Ltd. are currently facing prosecution in the matter, with their defence teams challenging the allegations against them.

Mr Atta Akyea also expressed confidence in the defence’s case, describing the allegations confronting his clients as “sordid”.
