Mahama urges Judiciary to embrace technology, improve efficiency

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Judiciary to pursue comprehensive reforms aimed at improving efficiency, embracing appropriate technology and making justice more accessible to all Ghanaians.

The President made the call in Accra while speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of three new Justices of the Supreme Court.

President Mahama said public confidence in the Judiciary depends not only on the quality and soundness of court decisions, but also on the conduct of judges, accessibility of the courts and the timely delivery of justice.

He expressed concern about prolonged court cases, avoidable adjournments and delays in the delivery of judgments, warning that such challenges could undermine public confidence in the justice system.

According to him, unnecessary delays in resolving cases can amount to a denial of justice, particularly for litigants who may have to wait for extended periods before their matters are concluded.

President Mahama therefore urged the Judiciary to adopt reforms that would streamline court processes and make greater use of appropriate technology to improve the administration of justice.

He also tasked the Supreme Court with ensuring that its judgments are clear, well-reasoned and provide dependable guidance to lower courts, public institutions, legal practitioners and citizens.

The President said a responsive and efficient Judiciary was essential to strengthening the rule of law and maintaining public trust in Ghana's democratic institutions.

He expressed confidence that the newly appointed Supreme Court Justices would contribute to strengthening the country's justice system and uphold the principles of fairness, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
