Humility Pays: The Boy Who Wanted To Be Great - Part One

In the small town of Avenya lived a young man named Daniel. He was intelligent, hardworking, and ambitious. From childhood, he had dreamed of becoming a successful businessman. He wanted to build a big house, drive a fine car, and become a respected man in society.

Daniel’s father was a farmer, while his mother sold vegetables at the market. They were not wealthy, but they taught their son an important lesson.

“Daniel,” his father often said, “never allow success to make you forget the people who helped you.”

Daniel always listened, but he did not fully understand.

After completing school, Daniel moved to the city to look for work. He found a job at a small company that sold building materials. His manager, Mr. Mensah, was an experienced businessman who had started with very little.

Daniel worked hard and learned quickly. Within a few years, he became one of the company’s best employees. He was promoted to supervisor and began earning a good salary.

But success slowly changed him.
He started dressing expensively and speaking proudly about his achievements. When former classmates visited him, he reminded them of his position. When junior workers asked for help, he sometimes ignored them.

One day, an old schoolmate named Kojo visited him at the office.

“Daniel! It has been many years. How are you?”

Daniel looked at him and smiled.
“Kojo, you are still doing the same small business?”

Kojo nodded. “Yes, but I am grateful. I am hoping to expand soon.”

Daniel laughed lightly. “You should think bigger. Success does not come to people who remain small.”

Kojo smiled politely. “You are right. I will keep working.”

That evening, Daniel returned home feeling proud of himself. He believed he had become a great man.

He did not know that life was about to teach him a lesson he would never forget.
