Failure to jail corrupt NPP officials will haunt NDC in election 2028 – Hopson Adorye warns

Director of Field Operations for the United Party (UP), Hopson Adorye, has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that Ghanaians will not forgive the party if it fails to prosecute and jail officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) found culpable of corruption.

According to him, the NDC secured massive support from Ghanaians partly because of its promise to tackle corruption and hold persons accused of wrongdoing under the previous NPP administration accountable.

Speaking to Kwabena Bobie Ansah on the Citizen Show on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr Adorye said the NDC could not afford to disappoint Ghanaians in its handling of corruption-related matters.

He argued that expectations among the public remain high, particularly regarding investigations and prosecutions involving former government officials and appointees accused of corruption.

Mr Adorye maintained that where investigations establish wrongdoing, the appropriate legal processes must be allowed to take their course to ensure that persons found culpable are held accountable.

He cautioned the NDC against what he described as a failure to act on its campaign commitments, warning that such an approach could have serious political consequences for the party.

According to him, Ghanaians who voted massively for the NDC expect the government to demonstrate its commitment to fighting corruption by ensuring that alleged corrupt acts are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted where the evidence supports such action.

He further warned that if the NDC fails to deal decisively with corruption allegations involving members of the previous NPP administration, the consequences could eventually affect the party itself.

Mr Adorye claimed that the NPP could seek similar treatment against NDC officials if it returns to power in the future.

He therefore urged the NDC government to remain firm in its fight against corruption and ensure that accountability is pursued through due process and the courts.

He stressed that the credibility of the government's anti-corruption agenda would depend largely on its ability to translate its promises into concrete action.
