The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has announced the immediate closure of payments for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage, citing the need to prevent oversubscription and ensure effective management of the number of prospective pilgrims.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 and signed by the Director of Communications, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, said the decision was necessary to align the number of confirmed pilgrims with the approved quota for Ghana and facilitate a smooth, orderly and well-coordinated Hajj operation.
According to the Office, oversubscription has historically created administrative backlogs and operational challenges during Hajj operations, making it important to manage the number of pilgrims within the approved limits.
The PAOG stressed that the closure was taken in the best interest of prospective pilgrims and the nation, particularly to ensure that all persons who have successfully paid are properly processed and successfully airlifted to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Office further advised intending pilgrims who were unable to complete their payments before the closure to wait for subsequent Hajj arrangements.
It also cautioned the public against individuals who claim they can still secure opportunities for people to participate in the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage following the closure of payments.
The PAOG urged the public to seek clarification through its official channels and provided 0537383992 for enquiries.
