The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice presidential candidate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known affectionately as NAPO, has called for a comprehensive rebuilding of the party beyond preparations for the next general election.
He said the party must critically examine its recent experiences, improve its organisation and communication, and reconnect with Ghanaians.
“Political movements remain relevant when they are willing to learn, adapt and remain anchored in the principles that give them purpose,” Dr Opoku Prempeh said in a social media post on Tuesday, September 8.
He made the remarks after participating in last week's Berlin Campaign Conference, which brought together political strategists, communicators and leaders to discuss changes in political campaigns, communication and democratic engagement.
Dr Opoku Prempeh said the lessons from the conference had reinforced the need for the NPP to take a critical look at its approach as it seeks to rebuild.
He said the party's rebuilding process must involve an honest assessment of its experiences and a deliberate effort to improve how it organises and communicates with the public.
The former Energy Minister, however, cautioned against pursuing change at the expense of the NPP's identity.
He said the party must identify aspects of its operations that no longer serve its interests while protecting the values that have sustained its political tradition.
“The task, therefore, is to simply change what no longer works, and preserve what should never be lost,” he said.
