In the wake of the ongoing impasse between the Gomoa and Effutu people over land disputes, the Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, has disclosed that Nananom are ready to collect taxes and fees in areas the Gomoa Central District Assembly currently considers “no‑go zones” due to the dispute to boost revenue mobilization.
According to the Omanhene, the Gomoa Central District Assembly appears to have failed to collect taxes and fees in certain communities because of tensions between Gomoa and Effutu residents—particularly in communities occupied by Effutu people on Gomoa land. He emphasized that such areas must pay their taxes and fees to the Gomoa Districts, not the Effutu Municipal Assembly.
He has therefore tasked the Gomoa Central District Assembly to clearly define its revenue collection points and notify Nananom where necessary. As custodians of the land, he noted, traditional authorities know the boundaries of each Assembly and can mobilize revenue from those areas to strengthen the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF).
Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI, who expressed concern about insecurity surrounding revenue collection in parts of the District, made these remarks at a forum organized by the Gomoa Central District Assembly in the Central Region to account for its stewardship over the past year. The event was themed “Accounting to the People.”
In his presentation, the DCE for Gomoa Central District Assembly, Hon. Hackman Kobina Aidoo, outlined several development projects undertaken over the past year, particularly in Education, Health, Sanitation, road reshaping, and the construction of a 24‑hour market to improve the well‑being of residents.
He highlighted the completion of a 6‑unit classroom block for Gomoa Obuasi, a 3‑unit classroom block for the maiden Boys’ School—the first of its kind—at Gomoa Afransi, expansion works at Gomoa Ekwamkrom to enhance healthcare delivery, and the provision of mechanized boreholes for 10 communities. He added that the monthly National Sanitation Day exercise continues to be observed.
The DCE urged residents, especially the business community, to pay their taxes and fees regularly to enable the Assembly to deliver its mandate effectively.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah, commended the DCE for maintaining a cordial relationship with Nananom and encouraged him to continue working closely with traditional authorities to ensure that the Reset Agenda of the NDC Government, led by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, transforms the fortunes of the Gomoa Central District.
On sanitation, the Regional Minister called on all residents to help eradicate environmental‑related diseases.
