NHIA pays over GH¢280m in claims to health facilities nationwide

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has paid GH¢281.66 million in claims to health facilities across the country for services provided to members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The latest payment brings the total claims paid by the Authority since the beginning of 2026 to GH¢1.64 billion.

The NHIA said the payments form part of its efforts to ensure that healthcare providers are regularly reimbursed for services rendered to NHIS members.

The Authority paid GH¢281,658,680.79 to credentialed health facilities on August 25 and 27, covering public, private and mission facilities.

Public health facilities received GH¢122.73 million, representing 43.58 per cent of the total amount paid.

Private facilities received GH¢104.50 million, representing 37.1 per cent, while mission health facilities received GH¢54.42 million, representing 19.32 per cent.

Chief Executive of the NHIA, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, said the Authority would continue to prioritise the prompt reimbursement of recredentialed health facilities to support uninterrupted healthcare delivery.

“We know the facilities need the payment to procure consumables to enable them to provide quality care to our members, and it is for this reason we ensure that as soon as their claims have been vetted, we promptly pay them,” Dr Bampoe said, as quoted in a statement issued on Monday, September 7.
