Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Finance and Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has said President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to reduce the size of government has resulted in greater efficiency in public administration.

She said the government inherited a large-sized public administration but had since adopted a leaner structure by capping ministerial appointments at 60 and reducing the number of ministries from 30 to 23.

According to her, the restructuring has demonstrated that a smaller government can deliver more efficiently while strengthening coordination across public institutions.

“The irony, ladies and gentlemen, is that this smaller government has proven to be more efficient and delivering more with less,” Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said at the opening ceremony of the first international edition of HR Café 2026 in Accra on Monday, September 7.

Nana Oye said the restructuring forms part of the government’s broader reform agenda aimed at improving public sector performance and aligning state institutions with national development priorities.

She said the government has also introduced measures to strengthen accountability and performance monitoring across the public sector.

These include the adoption of a code of conduct for government appointees, the establishment of a National Governance Advisory Council and the introduction of key performance indicators for various public officials.
