The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South and Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has supported students from the constituency preparing to report to Senior High School (SHS) with essential educational materials.
The initiative, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians, saw the distribution of more than 300 chop boxes, 300 trunks, 300 student mattresses and several school bags to the beneficiaries.
In addition to the items distributed, Hon. Ricketts-Hagan also covered the transportation costs for the students, ensuring that each beneficiary could send their items home without incurring any additional financial burden.
Speaking to the students, Hon. Ricketts-Hagan urged them to take their education seriously and study hard, assuring them that their future remains bright if they remain focused and committed to their studies.
He also appealed to parents to take greater responsibility for providing the basic needs of their children throughout their period in school.
The MP further urged parents not to rely solely on Members of Parliament to pay their children’s school fees and other expenses, stressing the need for parents and guardians to play their part in supporting their children’s education.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. George Justice Arthur, commended Hon. Ricketts-Hagan for the initiative. According to the MCE, the gesture is not a new one, as the MP has been supporting students in this manner for several years.
He noted that Hon. Ricketts-Hagan was the first Member of Parliament in the area to introduce such a distribution initiative, describing it as a consistent effort to support families and students within the constituency.
The MCE encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items provided and remain focused on their academic pursuits.
The initiative forms part of efforts by the Cape Coast South MP to support students and reduce some of the financial challenges parents face when their children are preparing to enter SHS.
