Wake Up Baglo Youth appeal for urgent rehabilitation of deplorable roads

The Concerned Youth of Baglo Buem, popularly known as “Wake Up Baglo,” have appealed to the Government, the Minister for Roads and Highways and the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Hon. Kofi Adams, to urgently intervene in the deteriorating road network in the area.

The group is particularly calling for immediate attention to roads linking Baglo, Buem Odumasi, Buem Dzolu, Old Ayoma and other surrounding communities, which they say have suffered years of neglect.

Baglo, one of the oldest communities in the area, is also a major agricultural hub where cocoa, plantain, banana, vegetables and other farm produce are cultivated on a commercial scale.

According to the youth, however, the poor condition of the roads has made the transportation of farm produce difficult and costly, limiting farmers’ access to profitable markets, particularly in Hohoe.

They said the communities also contribute significantly to the local economy through the Kute Buem Market and New Ayoma Market, which generate considerable revenue for the Jasikan Municipal Assembly.

The group further highlighted the importance of the area as the location of Baglo Ridge Senior High School (BRISTECH), one of the notable senior high schools in the municipality, stressing that good roads are essential for students, teachers, parents and other users.

The youth expressed particular concern about the continued neglect of the Baglo-Odumasi-Dzolu road, especially as road construction is ongoing from the Hohoe stretch towards Lolobi and New Ayoma.

They alleged that the ongoing project appears to have been redirected towards the hometown of the current MP, while their communities continue to endure poor road conditions.

The group also recalled what they described as a similar situation under the previous NPP administration, when the then Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Aziale, reportedly lobbied for the construction of the Jasikan-Kute Buem road, leaving other communities with unresolved road challenges.

The Concerned Youth stressed that their concerns should not be interpreted as politically motivated, a threat or a political warning.

Rather, they said their appeal was being made as citizens who believe their communities deserve an equitable share of national development.

They therefore called on the Minister for Roads and Highways and Hon. Kofi Adams to urgently consider the rehabilitation of the Baglo-Odumasi-Dzolu-Old Ayoma road and ensure that the area benefits from upcoming major road development projects.

“Our farmers are producing, our markets are generating revenue, and our children are going to school. We need good roads to connect our communities to opportunities and markets. Wake Up Baglo Buem! Our farmers are producing, our roads must now connect us to the markets,” the Concerned Youth of Baglo Buem stated.
