Pusiga Assembly disburses GH¢436,500 to 179 Persons with Disabilities

The Pusiga District Assembly has disbursed GH¢436,500 to 179 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the district under the Disability Common Fund.

The funds were distributed at the Assembly’s main Conference Hall on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, to support beneficiaries in education, petty trading and animal rearing.

Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Pusiga, Hon. Abdul Rahim Aguuri Haruna, said the initiative demonstrated the government’s commitment to ensuring that no one was left behind in the country’s development process.

He said under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the “Resetting Ghana: Jobs, Accountability and Prosperity” agenda, PWDs were not merely beneficiaries of social interventions but active participants in national development.

The DCE said six beneficiaries received GH¢23,500 in education support, while 122 persons were given GH¢310,000 to support petty trading activities.

He added that 51 beneficiaries would receive GH¢103,000 in the next disbursement to support animal rearing.

“This gesture is not an act of charity, but a fulfilment of a constitutional and moral obligation,” the DCE stressed.

Hon. Haruna urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously to establish and sustain livelihoods, noting that the Department of Social Welfare and the Assembly would monitor the utilisation of the money.

He disclosed that the number of beneficiaries had increased significantly since he assumed office as DCE, rising from 106 in 2025 to 118 in the first disbursement of 2026 and 179 in the latest exercise.

He said the figures represented a total of 403 beneficiaries supported within a relatively short period.

The DCE assured PWDs in the district that the Assembly would continue to engage with them and advocate for improved access to healthcare, education, sanitation and livelihood opportunities.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership of disability organisations, Assembly Members, the Member of Parliament, traditional authorities, opinion leaders and staff of the Department of Social Welfare for contributing to the success of the exercise.

The beneficiaries, in turn, expressed gratitude to the Assembly and government for releasing the funds and providing them with support to improve their livelihoods.
