Ghanaian Journalist Juliet Etefe Bound for Germany's DW Akademie, Highlighting Deepening Ghana-Germany Media Ties

German Ambassador to Ghana, Frederik Landshöft, has announced that he recently met with Juliet Selase Etefe, a journalist and Online Editor at the Business and Financial Times (B&FT), ahead of her departure to begin a Master's degree in International Media Studies at DW Akademie in Bonn, Germany.¹

A Familiar Face at the Embassy
According to the Ambassador, Etefe has worked closely with the German Embassy in Accra over the course of her career, and the meeting was an opportunity to celebrate her transition into this next stage of her professional and academic journey.

Etefe currently serves as Online Editor at B&FT, one of Ghana's leading business and financial newspapers, where she has built a substantial portfolio covering economic policy, monetary affairs, entrepreneurship and international diplomacy including recent coverage of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's engagements with Ghana and her long-running "Inspiring Start-Ups" column profiling the country's entrepreneurs.

DW Akademie and Germany's Investment in African Media

DW Akademie, Deutsche Welle's international media development arm, has for years positioned itself as one of the principal channels through which Germany supports journalism training and media capacity-building across Africa and beyond.

The Ambassador framed Etefe's admission as more than an individual achievement, describing it as symbolic of the broader collaboration between Ghana and Germany in journalism and media development, through which German institutions continue to widen opportunities for African journalists to deepen their skills and strengthen the media landscapes they serve.

A Chapter Worth Watching
The Embassy's message closed with well-wishes for Etefe as she begins what it described as an exciting new chapter in Bonn.¹ For Ghana's business and financial journalism sector an ecosystem where B&FT is Ghana's most widely-read business newspaper, with a nationwide readership numbering roughly in the hundreds of thousands Etefe's academic step abroad adds to a growing list of Ghanaian journalists whose international training feeds back into the depth and rigour of newsroom coverage at home.
