The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Hon. Lydia Ohenewa Sarah, is set to lead another major back-to-school support initiative through the SOL Foundation, with 500 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students expected to receive essential items ahead of the new academic year.
The donation, scheduled for 5 September 2026, will see the office of the MCE collaborate with the SOL Foundation to distribute trunks, chop boxes, mattresses and other necessities to students preparing to begin their SHS education.
The initiative forms part of the foundation's wider mission to ease the financial burden on families while ensuring students have the resources they need to start school with confidence.
- Support ahead of school reopening
As schools prepare to reopen across Ghana, the SOL Foundation has intensified its outreach efforts in the Suhum Municipality, extending support to both parents and learners through the distribution of educational supplies.
In a recent exercise, the foundation donated school bags, shoes, exercise books, pens, pencils and other stationery to help improve teaching and learning.
The outreach programme reached four zones within the municipality—Nankese Zone, Akorabo Zone, Suhum Zone 1 and Suhum Zone 2—with approximately 1,000 beneficiaries receiving support.
The foundation said the intervention was designed to remove some of the barriers that prevent children from accessing quality education, particularly as families prepare for the financial demands of a new school term.
- Focus on freshers
The upcoming SHS donation targets students entering boarding schools for the first time, a transition that often requires families to purchase expensive items such as trunks, mattresses and storage boxes.
By providing these essentials, organisers hope to reduce the pressure on parents and ensure freshers can settle into school life more comfortably.
The programme also highlights the growing partnership between the SOL Foundation and the Suhum Municipal Assembly in supporting educational development within the municipality.

The SOL Foundation—whose name stands for Support, Outreach and Love—operates in Ghana's Eastern Region, with a particular focus on the Suhum Municipality.
Under the patronage of Hon. Lydia Ohenewa Sarah, the organisation has positioned education as one of its flagship areas of intervention, combining community outreach with practical support for students and vulnerable families.
The upcoming donation is expected to build on the foundation's previous outreach efforts as it continues to expand programmes aimed at improving educational opportunities across the municipality.
