John Boadu pitches disability inclusion as his signature pledge in chairmanship bid

New Patriotic Party chairmanship aspirant, John Boadu, has pledged to deepen the inclusion of persons with disabilities within the party's structures if elected as National Chairman, describing it as one of the defining features of his vision for the party.

He said this after appearing before the vetting committee, where he outlined his plans and his readiness to lead the party ahead of the 2028 elections. Mr Boadu said his approach to disability inclusion goes beyond symbolic gestures, stressing that persons with disabilities must be fully integrated into the party's structures at every level.

"That recognition of people with disabilities is not just about creating a desk for them, but ensuring they are integrated into the entire structure of our party, at the constituency level, at the regional level, and at the national level. This is inclusivity, and it is only the NPP that has done that," he said.

He noted that he personally involves persons with disabilities in his own planning and activities, describing it as a practice he intends to carry into the national chairmanship role.

"I, John Boadu, recognise it as well. I get them involved in my planning, in everything that I do, as I look forward to becoming national chairman," he stated.

On his broader vision for the party, Mr Boadu said he was committed to strengthening internal structures to help resolve disputes before they escalate, proposing closer collaboration between the party's councils of elders at the national, regional and constituency levels.

"We need to strengthen the finances of our National Council of Elders and get them to link up with the regional and constituency councils of elders, to detect signs of disputes before they get to a level that would not be okay for us as a party," he said.

He also touched on his ambitions for the party's electoral fortunes, stating that his focus as chairman would be to help the NPP win a majority in Parliament, which he described as a necessary foundation for victory in the 2028 presidential election.

"We need to win a majority in Parliament, and that becomes a bonus for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become president in 2028," he intimated.

The vetting of aspirants comes as part of the NPP's ongoing internal processes ahead of its national delegate election, with aspirants outlining their plans to party officials and the wider public in the lead-up to the contest.
