NPP chairmanship race: 'I have 18 years of working relationship with Bawumia' – John Boadu

Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has dismissed claims that he would be unable to work with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, if elected.

He said the claims are unfounded, stressing that his relationship with Dr Bawumia dates back to 2008, when the latter was selected as the running mate to then NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to Mr Boadu, he served as Dr Bawumia’s first spokesperson at the time and travelled across the country with him to engage party supporters, students and young members of the NPP.

In a social media post on Tuesday, September 1, the former NPP General Secretary said the two have worked together through different phases of the party’s journey.

“I do not need to convince anyone that I can work with our Flagbearer, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia. Our relationship is not a product of today’s politics; it is a partnership built on 18 years of trust, loyalty, shared responsibility and service to the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Mr Boadu said their working relationship had survived challenges and changes within the party, while maintaining a shared commitment to the NPP and Ghana’s development.

He said his experience working with Dr Bawumia and other members of the party would be critical to his leadership if given the mandate to chair the NPP.

“I have the history. I have the experience. I have the track record. And when given the mandate to lead the party, I will put all these to work to unite, rebuild and reposition the NPP for victory,” he added.

Mr Boadu is facing a stiff competition from other party stalwarts including Paul Afoko, Boakye Agyarko and Sammy Crabbe.
