Cape Coast came alive with a remarkable display of unity as residents, institutions, agencies and community members joined a two-day clean-up exercise held on Friday, August 28, and Saturday, August 29, 2026, ahead of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye.
The exercise, led by the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. George Justice Arthur, saw participants across the metropolis mobilising to clear choked gutters, clean public spaces and tidy their immediate surroundings.
The initiative formed part of efforts to prepare Cape Coast to host thousands of residents and visitors who are expected to converge on the metropolis for the annual Oguaa Fetu Afahye celebrations.
Beyond preparing the city for the festival, the exercise also served as a reminder of the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. The massive participation demonstrated that keeping Cape Coast clean cannot be left to the Metropolitan Assembly alone.
Speaking through the exercise, residents and participating institutions reaffirmed the need for sustained community involvement in sanitation, particularly in areas where poor waste disposal and choked gutters can create serious environmental and public health concerns.
As Cape Coast prepares to welcome visitors for the Oguaa Fetu Afahye, the call is for the spirit demonstrated during the two-day exercise to continue beyond the festival. A clean city requires daily commitment from everyone.
With the collective efforts of the Assembly, traditional authorities, businesses, institutions and residents, Cape Coast can maintain its reputation as a welcoming, healthy and attractive destination.
