‎Ghana Armed Forces Salutes Türkiye's 104th Victory Day at Cantonments Reception ‎

The Ghana Armed Forces used Türkiye's 104th Victory Day reception in Accra to publicly reaffirm the depth of military cooperation between the two countries, with a senior GAF officer telling guests at the Turkish Ambassador's residence that Ghana's defence establishment values the partnership and stands ready to deepen it.

The occasion
Türkiye's Ambassador to Ghana, Hüseyin Güngör, hosted the reception on Sunday evening, August 30, 2026, at his official residence on Obenesu Close, East Cantonments, to mark Zafer Bayramı Victory Day and Turkish Armed Forces Day. The gathering drew government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and senior military officers from both countries.

Speaking on behalf of Ghana's Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Major General Stephen Woseadzikpo Kweku Parbey, Chief of Defence Intelligence at General Headquarters, delivered a formal address conveying the CDS's congratulations to the Government and people of Türkiye, along with the compliments of Ghana's defence chief to his Turkish counterpart, the Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces.

Marking Dumlupınar
The address traced Victory Day to the Battle of Dumlupınar in 1922, the decisive engagement under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk that broke the closing campaign of the Turkish War of Independence and set the course for the founding of the modern Turkish Republic.

Major General Parbey described the anniversary as a reminder that national unity, courage and purpose can see a country through adversity, and used the occasion to salute the Turkish Armed Forces for their professionalism and their record of contribution to national and international security.

A defence relationship with substance
Beyond the ceremonial language, the address set out the practical architecture of Ghana-Türkiye defence ties: officer training, professional exchanges, and capacity-building across logistics, intelligence and peace-support operations an emphasis in keeping with Major General Parbey's own portfolio as the officer overseeing Ghana's defence intelligence establishment.

He framed this cooperation against a regional security backdrop of terrorism, violent extremism, transnational organized crime, cyber threats and maritime insecurity, arguing that no single country can meet these challenges alone and that Türkiye's investment in defence diplomacy has strengthened Ghana's ability to respond professionally and lawfully to emerging threats.

The remarks placed defence and security cooperation alongside trade, education, health and technology as pillars of a bilateral relationship the two governments have steadily broadened since 1958.

A pledge to the future
Closing on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Major General Parbey assured Türkiye of Ghana's continued partnership in advancing shared defence and security interests and in the wider cause of global peace, expressing hope that the friendship between the two countries and between their armed forces would continue to grow.

The Turkish Embassy is understood to have also conveyed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's national Victory Day message to the gathering, in keeping with the practice observed at Turkish missions abroad, including at sister receptions this weekend in capitals such as Baku.
