Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite behind the party’s presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to secure victory in the 2028 general elections.
He said the party’s return to government in 2029 would depend largely on its ability to put aside internal differences and rally around its candidate after the party’s internal elections.
Nana Akufo-Addo made the call when aspiring NPP National Communications Director Dennis Miracles Aboagye paid a courtesy call on him on Wednesday, August 26, ahead of filing his nomination.
“We need to unite all factions in this party behind our candidate to make sure that we can push him onto the seat in 2029," said the former President.
The former President described the communications arena as one of the most challenging aspects of the NPP’s efforts to regain power.
He said the work of the party’s communications team would play a major role in determining whether the NPP succeeds in its comeback bid.
Nana Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Miracles Aboagye’s ability to take up the challenge and wished him well ahead of the party’s internal contest.
Miracles Aboagye, on his part, assured the former President that he and his team were ready to work towards securing victory for the NPP.
He said his proposed communications team would seek to “command the narrative” and build a sophisticated communications structure capable of strengthening the party’s position as an opposition party.
“I am going to lead a team of people to build a very sophisticated communications architecture that will get our party back to power," he noted.
