Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed confidence in the leadership of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and his efforts to hold the government accountable over reported losses involving the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
Dr Bawumia made the remarks when he met Mr Afenyo-Markin at his residence on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The NPP flagbearer urged the Minority Leader and his colleagues in Parliament to use all legitimate parliamentary procedures available to them to ensure that the government accounts to Ghanaians for the reported losses.
Dr Bawumia also commended the Minority for what he described as its efforts to expose issues surrounding the reported losses at GoldBod.
For his part, Mr Afenyo-Markin assured Dr Bawumia that the Minority would pursue the matter to the fullest extent of its ability, guided by the national interest.
He described the issue as a national responsibility and pledged that the Minority would approach it with the best intentions and remain focused on protecting the interests of Ghanaians.
Mr Afenyo-Markin further disclosed that the reported losses involving GoldBod and the Bank of Ghana would remain firmly on the Minority’s agenda as Parliament reconvenes today.
He said the Minority would use the parliamentary process to seek answers and demand accountability over the financial losses.
