Former Anyaa Sowutuom Member of Parliament Dr Dickson Adomako-Kissi has urged newly elected regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and work with all members ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He urged the executives to put the party’s recent internal contests behind them and focus on building a united front to improve the NPP’s chances in the next election.
The former lawmaker said the new executives must avoid divisions based on individual candidates they supported during the party’s internal elections.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Tuesday, August 18, Dr Adomako-Kissi congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to lead with humility.
“I would hope that they'll be magnanimous in the sense that they will do their best to reach out to everybody and bring everybody on board. This is not the time to, as it is, call out those who supported you or didn't support you,” he said.
The NPP conducted its regional executive elections on Saturday, August 15, as part of the party’s reorganisation ahead of the 2028 elections.
Dr Adomako-Kissi said the outcome of the elections should mark the beginning of efforts to heal divisions created during the internal contests.
He stressed that not every party member would have supported the newly elected executives, making it necessary for them to extend their leadership to all members.
“As democracy is, not everybody would like you, and not everybody would necessarily support your bid to become [an executive]. You have to humble yourselves and serve the people you've come to serve,” he said.
The former MP also welcomed recent calls for unity from the party’s presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
He said the NPP now has one flag bearer and should work towards ending factionalism associated with different personalities within the party.
