Political analyst Dr Samuel Afriyie has urged the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to change his leadership and communication style to improve the party’s fortunes in the region.
Abronye retained his position on Saturday, August 15, securing a decisive victory over his challengers in the Bono Regional elections.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3, Dr Afriyie said the NPP’s poor performance in the Bono Region in the 2024 general elections should prompt the chairman to reassess his approach to leading the party.
He said although Abronye’s landslide victory in the NPP’s regional executive elections showed that he retained the confidence of the party’s delegates, he must now focus on making the party more attractive to voters.
Dr Afriyie also cautioned Abronye against inflammatory language and the politics of insults, arguing that his communication style could affect the party’s appeal to voters.
“He needs a lot of work to do in that region. It is so unattractive for the party, and he needs a lot of work. He needs to change his style of communication so that the party will be attractive,” he said.
“The region is not performing for the NPP. The region is so unattractive for the party, and he needs a lot of work. I believe that he can also work on the unity because during the election there were issues about him and ten other people,” the analyst added.
He further urged Abronye to work with all contestants from the regional elections and other party members to promote unity.
The analyst said the chairman’s ability to bring unsuccessful aspirants and other factions together would be crucial to strengthening the NPP ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, following his re-election, Abronye pledged to work to reclaim the parliamentary seats the NPP lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections.
Dr Afriyie said the pledge would require a different leadership approach, stronger grassroots engagement and communication capable of attracting both party supporters and floating voters.
