A 53-year-old man, identified as Dodzi Dogbe, has been arrested by the police after allegedly killing his 43-year-old wife, Madam Lydia Mena, at Asikuma in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, shortly after the couple returned home from an evening church service.
According to information gathered, the couple had been married for about three years. Sources said the suspect had recently experienced mental health challenges and was taken to a health facility for treatment.
Following his discharge, his mother reportedly moved in with the couple to assist with his care.
On the day of the incident, the couple reportedly attended an evening church service together before returning home.
A resident who recounted the incident said the deceased prepared food after they returned home, which the couple ate together in their room.
“After they had returned, the deceased cooked some food and the two ate together in their room. Strangely, some few minutes later, the mother who was outside saw her son coming out and holding a cutlass with blood all over him.
“The mother quickly rushed to their room and found that the wife’s head has completely been severed off and lying in a pool of blood,” the resident narrated.
The resident added that the suspect’s mother raised an alarm, prompting some young people in the community to intervene and disarm and restrain him.
Dodzi Dogbe was subsequently handed over to the police, who have commenced investigations into the incident.
The body of Madam Mena was conveyed to a hospital morgue pending autopsy and further investigations.
