Dr. Robert Doh calls for investment in juvenile sports, donates to Ho Municipal Basic Schools

National Youth Commissioner of the NDC Professionals Forum (PROFORUM) and former Ho Central Constituency Parliamentary aspirant, Dr. Robert Kofi Doh, has called on well-meaning Ghanaians, private organizations, and philanthropists to invest in juvenile sports in the country.

He made the appeal during a brief interaction with the Ho Municipal Education Directorate. The meeting was to present a cash donation to the Ho Municipal Basic School sports contingent ahead of the Volta Regional Inter-District Sports Festival in Akatsi.

Dr. Doh described the donation as his "widow’s mite" towards supporting young athletes. He was represented by a delegation led by Hon. Sefadzi Agama.

Speaking on his behalf, Hon. Agama said as a medical doctor, Dr. Doh recognizes the critical role of sports and exercise in the health and physical well-being of individuals. He noted that massive support for basic school sports is necessary to build a healthy foundation for the youth.

Dr. Doh also lamented the dwindling fortunes of Ghana’s national teams in both local and international tournaments. He attributed the decline to inadequate investment in juvenile sports and grassroots development.

He further entreated the young athletes to remain disciplined in their chosen disciplines and to show maximum respect to their teachers and handlers. According to him, discipline is key to bringing laurels to the Ho Municipality.

Receiving the donation, the Ho Municipal Education Director, Dr. Esther Yeboah-Agyemang, expressed profound appreciation for the gesture. She described the support as timely and critical to the preparation of the contingent.

In what she described as an "Oliver Twist" appeal, Dr. Yeboah-Agyemang called for more support from the public and stakeholders to help address the challenges facing the Directorate and to sustain sports development in basic schools.
