Digital transformation needs more than government alone — Digital Technology Director

The Director of the Digital Technology Directorate at the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Dr. Samuel Antwi-Gyekyi, has urged stronger collaboration to accelerate Ghana’s digital transformation agenda.

“Digital transformation cannot be driven by government alone,” Dr. Antwi-Gyekyi said, calling for partnerships between the public sector, industry, academia, entrepreneurs and development partners to translate policy into jobs, innovation and economic growth.

Representing the sector minister, Samuel Nartey George, at a high-level stakeholder workshop in Accra, he described the engagement as timely, noting Ghana’s ambitious digital transformation agenda anchored on the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, improved data governance, the One Million Coders Programme, and the country’s growing leadership in digital governance across Africa.

Dr. Antwi-Gyekyi welcomed Digital Policy Alert’s expansion into Ghana, stating its AI-assisted regulatory analysis tools and digital policy intelligence platform as valuable resources to support evidence-based policymaking, regulatory alignment and Ghana’s participation in regional and global digital trade discussions, including under the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade and the World Trade Organization.

The workshop, organised in partnership with Digital Policy Alert and the St. Gallen Endowment for Prosperity through Trade, brought together representatives from government ministries and agencies, academia, industry, civil society and development partners to strengthen Ghana’s digital governance and international trade engagement.
