Solemn yet colourful celebrations have marked the 89th Ada Asafotufiami Festival, as the Overlord of the Ada State, Dzetse Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, officially launched activities towards commemorating his upcoming 50th anniversary as Paramount Chief of Ada.
This year’s Asafotufiami marks 49 years of his reign as Paramount Chief, with next year set to commemorate his full 50 years on the throne, a historic milestone for the Ada State.
As part of this year’s celebrations and in honour of departed Asafoatseme Chiefs, Nene Dzetse directed that all chiefs walk to the durbar grounds instead of being carried. The decision created a dignified and colourful procession befitting the significance of the occasion.
The Member of Parliament for Ada East, Hon. Doeyo Cudjoe Ghansah, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kanor, delivered messages on behalf of the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
They highlighted government’s commitment to the proposed 24-hour Economic Market at Ada Kasseh, as well as efforts to improve road networks across both Ada East and Ada West.
Nene Dzetse, who also serves as President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, expressed gratitude to all participants and extended warm wishes to indigenes and visitors for a peaceful and enjoyable Asafotufiami celebration.
Media Coordinator Priceless Ala-Amegavie urged media practitioners covering the festival to remain vigilant and ensure accuracy in their reportage, citing the circulation of several false reports on social media concerning this year’s celebrations.
The Manye Naana Adiki I, Queen Mother of Ada, together with the Hlami-tse Chief of Dangmebiawe, Nene Asem, also expressed appreciation to all who attended the celebrations.
They encouraged the public to observe the festival responsibly, with discipline and proper sanitation practices to help maintain the cleanliness of the community throughout the festivities.
