A former NDC Member of Parliament for Agona West, Lawyer Charles Obeng Nkum, has bemoaned what he describes as the abysmal performance of the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Richard Asiedu, warning that it will affect the fortunes of the party in future general elections unless a stronger hand takes over leadership to rescue its base.
“It is an open secret that the NDC as a party has lost its value in the Central Region and therefore needs an experienced, dedicated, and committed person with the knowledge to steer affairs before the unexpected happens in 2028.
"I have therefore decided to contest for the Central Regional Chairmanship position of the NDC when nomination forms are opened next month,” he stated.
Interacting with NDC faithful at Agona Swedru last Friday, the Agona Abodom‑born lawyer said the lack of experience, dedication, and quality leadership is affecting the fortunes of the party in the Central Region.
“I am winning this election to rescue the party from the mess we are witnessing today,” he added.
Lawyer Charles Obeng Nkum, who has served as Assembly Member for the Agona Abodom Anaafo Electoral Area, Member of Parliament for Agona West, and a steering force within the NDC, noted that the time is ripe for him to lead the party in the Central Region.
“As I speak, there is no cohesion at the regional level of a party that once won the hearts of the people in the Central Region. It cannot be a one‑man show. A party is run on cooperation, probity, and accountability—getting everybody on board,” he emphasized.
Senior journalist and former spokesperson for former Vice President Amissah‑Arthur, Mr. Kweku Tsen, commended Lawyer Charles Obeng Nkum for his bold and courageous decision to reconnect the base of the party in the Central Region, adding that the NDC was sinking deeply under the current leadership.
The former Agona West Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Kwesi Lincoln, affirmed the support of party activists in Agona West and beyond for Lawyer Charles Obeng Nkum to win the Regional Chairmanship position.
A leading member of the NDC in the Agona West Constituency, Madam Fati Obofur, recounted the positive contributions of Lawyer Charles Obeng Nkum and assured him of her full support to spearhead the growth of the party.
