Gomoa Assin Traditional Council launches Silver Jubilee of transformative leadership

The Gomoa Assin Traditional Council has launched a grand celebration to mark 25 years of improved governance and development under the visionary leadership of Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council and Omanhen of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area in the Central Region.

The commemorative event, held at the Gomoa Ojobi Community Center on Friday, 7th August, 2026, brought together chiefs, queen mothers, government officials, and community members to reflect on over two decades of progress.

Addressing the gathering, the President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council and Omanhen of the Traditional Area, Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, reiterated his commitment to championing infrastructural development within the area. He revealed plans to invest in youth development.

Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II also expressed his displeasure over the deterioration of water bodies due to galamsey activities. He called for swift action from the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to phase out this disturbing national menace by issuing strict measures and directives.

He, however, commended the President, John Dramani Mahama, for transformational initiatives including education, road construction and other national projects being implemented across the country. He called on community members to support and rally behind the government to ensure total development within the traditional area.

In his opening speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Rev. Dr. Nana Francis Kwasi Essel, who doubles as “Nyimdzeekesehen”of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, called for continuous development. He mentioned that the traditional area needs total development across education and sustainable amenity centres.

According to the Chairman, land litigation remains the most prevalent issue hindering development and growth in Gomoa. He urged ongoing consultations among stakeholders and community leaders in the area to resolve such disputes.

“This is the perfect opportunity for us to discuss this issue which is disturbing the community. Over the years, we are always resolving land disputes and this is not the best for development. Let’s discourage these acts so we can move forward. The development of Gomoa depends upon our efforts,” he stated.

The Omankrado of Gomoa Asempanyin and Amankrakuahen of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area, Nana Kumasah Krampah II, expressed gratitude to the people of Gomoa Assin for their support and pledged to deepen development initiatives in the years ahead. He called for unity and continued collaboration to build on the gains made and to continue preserving cultural heritage.

Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Central Regional Education Director, Dr. Juliet Dufie Otabil, expressed gratitude to the Traditional Council for their commitment in supporting the service.

Dr. Otabil revealed that the Ghana Education Service has announced plans to construct a fully-equipped ICT laboratory with 200 computers at Gomoa Mampong in the Central Region. According to her, the project aligns with GES’ goal of expanding digital access across all communities.

“This fully-equipped ICT Lab with 200 computers at Gomoa Mampong is part of our vision to ensure that every child, no matter where they are, has access to quality digital education,” she stated.

“On behalf of Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director-General, we are determined to equip our schools with the resources needed to drive innovation, creativity and academic excellence,” she added.

She mentioned that the needed resources and documentation for the project will be finalized in consultation with traditional leaders. The facility is expected to benefit students and teachers in Gomoa Mampong and surrounding areas within the Gomoa Assin Traditional Area.

In an interaction with some community members, they praised the Omanhen Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II for his commitment to peace, education, healthcare, and infrastructure that has transformed the traditional area.

According to the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council, the launch of the Silver Jubilee sets the tone for a year-long celebration of legacy, service, and community impact.
