President John Dramani Mahama has announced a ministerial reshuffle, nominating Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology following the death of Dr. Murtala Mohammed in the August 6 helicopter crash.

The President has also nominated Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, subject to parliamentary approval.

The appointments were contained in a statement issued by the Presidency on Friday, August 7, and signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

As part of the reshuffle, the President reassigned the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, to head the Ministry of Defence, replacing the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, who also died in the helicopter crash.

Ahmed Ibrahim, who currently serves as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has been reassigned as Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources.

The Presidency said the nominations were made in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution and have been submitted to Parliament through the Speaker for prior approval.

The latest changes are expected to fill vacancies created by the deaths of senior government officials in the August 6 helicopter crash.
