GNFS saves marble-laden truck after fire outbreak on Cape Coast–Takoradi Road

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have prevented the complete destruction of a DAF truck loaded with marble stones after it caught fire at Ayensudo near Aroma International School on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Road.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, after a distress call was received from a Customs Division patrol team at about 2:28am.

In a statement issued on Friday, the service said firefighters from the Central Region responded swiftly and arrived at the scene 11 minutes later to contain the blaze.

"On arrival, firefighters found the truck, which was transporting marble stones from Takoradi to Cape Coast, engulfed in flames. The crew quickly deployed a hose line to contain the fire," the Service said.

The fire was brought under control at 3:32am and completely extinguished at 4:47am, according to the GNFS.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the blaze started after one of the truck's rear tyres burst.

The driver, identified as Mr. Ernest, told firefighters that he parked the vehicle to inspect the damaged tyre but noticed flames shortly afterwards and called for assistance.

"The timely response of the firefighters prevented the truck from being completely destroyed. No casualties were recorded," the statement noted.

The GNFS has urged motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance, particularly on tyres and other critical components, to help prevent fire-related incidents on the roads.
