One dead, six injured in Sagnarigu boundary clash

A longstanding boundary dispute between the Damankuniyili and Nyeshie communities in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region has turned deadly, leaving one person dead and six others injured.

The violent confrontation has heightened tensions in the two communities, which are situated along the Tamale–Bolgatanga Highway, prompting an increased security presence in the area.

Chairman of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) and Municipal Chief Executive for Sagnarigu, Abdulai Imoro Gong, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, confirmed that a joint team of police and military personnel had been deployed to restore calm and prevent further violence.

According to him, the security operation is aimed at maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring the safety of residents while the situation is brought under control.

Authorities are also expected to engage traditional and community leaders from both sides in efforts to resolve the underlying boundary dispute and prevent future clashes.
